This joint standard practice details the use of blast cleaning abrasives to achieve a defined degree of cleaning of steel surfaces prior to the application of a protective coating or lining system. The focus of this standard is near-white metal blast cleaning, which removes all rust, coating, and mill scale when the extra effort required to remove all stains of these materials is determined to be unwarranted. 1. Joint/weld shapes, symbols The depiction of welded joints and also the shapes of joints and welds shall conform to the stan-dards (e.g. EN /ISO .., EN /ISO or EN /ISO ). They shall be identified in the manufacturing documents (drawings, etc.) in an unambiguous manner, e.g. by means of the standard Size: KB. This joint standard covers the requirements for commercial blast cleaning of unpainted or painted steel surfaces by the use of abrasives. These requirements include the end condition of the surface and materials and procedures necessary to achieve and verify the end condition. The mandatory requirements are described in Sections 1 to 9.

The most effective reference tool for determining concrete surface profiles is the molded rubber comparator chips, available from the International Concrete Repair Institute. These samples replicate ten grades of surface roughness, and are designed for direct visual and tactile comparison to the concrete surface in question.

Joint Surface Preparation Standard NACE No. 5/SSPC -SP Surface preparation and cleaning of steel and other hard materials by high and ultrahigh pressure water jetting prior to paint application. Water jetting is a relatively new method of surface preparation. The standard deals with the removal of visible an d invisible contamination.

This joint standard was originally prepared in and revised in by the SSPC/NACE Task Group A on Surface Preparation by Abrasive Blast Cleaning. This joint task group includes members of both the SSPC Surface Preparation Committee and the NACE Unit Committee T-6G on Surface Preparation.

It was reaffirmed in by the SSPC Surface. This standard provides requirements for the use of high and ultra-high pressure water jetting to achieve various degrees of surface cleanliness. This standard is limited in scope to the use of water only, without the addition of solid particles in the stream.

For complete instructions, refer to Joint Surface Preparation Standard SSPC-SP12/NACE 5. This joint standard covers the requirements for white metal blast cleaning of uncoated or coated steel surfaces by the use of abrasives. These requirements include the end condition of the surface and materials and procedures necessary to achieve and verify the end condition.

SURFACE PREPARATION STANDARDS SSPC-SP12 / NACE 5 Surface Preparation and Cleaning of Steel and Other Hard Materials by High- and Ultra High- Pressure Water Jetting Prior to Recoating. This standard requires water jetting at high- or ultra high-pressure to prepare a surface for recoating using pressure ab psi.

This joint standard practice details the use of blast cleaning abrasives to achieve a defined degree of cleaning of steel surfaces prior to the application of a protective coating or lining system. The focus of this standard is white metal balst cleaning, which removes all of the coating, mill scale, rust, oxides, corrosion products, and other foreign matter from the surface.
